Error pages
Visiting a kan.fyi address that isn’t serving gets a branded page rather than a browser default. Here is what each means.
“No site at this address” — 404
Nothing has ever been published at this address, or what was here has been deleted.
Addresses are never reissued, so a deleted site’s address stays empty forever. If you expected something here, check the address: eight characters, letters and digits, easy to mistype.
The site exists but returns 404
Same page, different cause — and by design you cannot tell them apart from outside. The site is not being served because it is one of:
- private — see Sharing and visibility
- switched off by its owner
- held for review, including every account’s first publish
- published with no
index.htmlat its top level, so there is no page to serve at the root
They look identical from the outside on purpose: a visitor learns nothing about why, which is what makes “private” mean anything.

“Unavailable for legal reasons” — 451
The site was taken down for abuse.
This is not retryable and not reversible by its owner, who can neither switch it back on nor delete it. Only an administrator can clear it. If you believe it is wrong, contact us — republishing the same content will not help and makes the situation worse.
A Cloudflare error page instead of ours
If you get an unbranded error — a Cloudflare interstitial rather than the pages above — the address probably isn’t a valid site address at all. A mistyped subdomain that doesn’t match the expected shape never reaches us, so we cannot answer it with anything friendlier.
Check the spelling of the eight characters.
